Timing Belt Replacement

Automobile engines that use timing belts are either free-running or interference, depending on what occurs to the valve and piston synchronization is missing because of a broken timing belt. In an interference engine, the valves and piston share the same area. They move in and out of this space but not at the same time. If your maintenance is not done and the timing belt fails or slips, the pistons and valves will collide. To repair this damage requires removing the head and replacing bent valves. Your timing belt should be changed every 50-105,000 miles. Auto makers have specified the replacement intervals for timing belts. Other engines use a timing chain. Some cars should have the waterpump replaced at this time.
